Jon Erik Nyholm

Jon Erik Nyholm’s fascination with the relationships between humans and nature is evident in his abstract depictions of our scenic landscape, with its many plants, trees, rocks, the sky, and sea. Through his art, he seeks to create a sense of belonging and a connection between human emotions and the natural world.Nyholm has expressed a desire for his paintings to foster an unseen energy that gives voice to what is usually silent. 

Nyholm works primarily with paintings, prints, and ceramics, producing vibrant artwork with a poetic and emotive quality that speaks to the viewer. After shifting from working mostly on paper to using canvas as the background for his pieces, Nyholm has developed a distinct technique that allows him to create his unique, intuitive, and captivating pieces, which incorporate elusive colors, textures, and shapes.  

Jon Erik Nyholm (b. 1982) is a Danish artist born in Aarhus who now lives and works in Copenhagen (DK). He holds a MFA from both The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen (DK) and The Royal University College of Fine Arts in Stockholm (SE), and a BA from the University College for the Creative Arts in Canterbury (UK). 

Nyholm has had solo exhibitions as well as participated in group shows. His most recent exhibitions include ’Det Nære Det Sære Det Smukke Det Store ’at 1.SAL.100 (2024, DK), ’Verdant Fade’  at Bricks Gallery (2022, DK), and ’Dear Hunter’ at LIST (2019, DK).
