Pauline Fransson

Bio

Pauline Fransson’s artwork strives to maintain a balance between the figurative and the abstract, and in her paintings, the viewer is able to see unrecognizable figures amongst forests, stones, and mountains. Seeking inspiration from her surrounding Swedish landscape, Fransson sets out to create an almost entrancing bodily experience. She hopes to evoke a sense of recognition in her audience, not only with the landscapes but also with the emotions her paintings may elicit. Fransson’s mystical scenery is characterised by their picturesque presence and their desire to engage viewers in conversation, and her often indistinctive and melancholic paintings have a fluidity that connects nature and body, exploring the fragility they both share.

Fransson mixes her own colors with dry pigments and uses both egg tempera and oil paint, which give her paintings both an explicit and blurry quality. Through this combination of mediums, she explores how colors can create a narrative and, in turn, how this narrative affects the form of the painting.
