Luca Bjørnsten

Luca Bjørnsten's depictions of our modern landscape offer a bold and nuanced commentary on consumerism and globalization. His work is playful yet confrontational, and through the use of vibrant colors, he creates art that captures not only attention from the viewer but also challenges them, urging them to engage with his works. 

Bjørnsten's predominantly colorful and textured paintings appear as if they came out of a 16-bit computer game with soft pixels, and the combination of ironic cartoonish scenes and recognizable commercial brands is a testament to how capitalism has changed our conventional perception of today’s societal landscape. 

His use oil- and acrylic paint, and even something as uncontroversial as bubble wrap, further reinforces his focus on the relationship between products, people, and places. His emphasis on consumerism is both a declaration of social opposition and, while he paints from a nostalgic point of view, his visual identity is a symbol of idealized independence. 

Luca Bjørnsten (b. 1986, Copenhagen, DK) holds a fine arts degree from Gerrit Rietveld Academie, NL. He has had a number of celebrated solo- and group exhibitions around the world, but he continues to live and work in Copenhagen.
