Please join us when we mark the end of Mathias Malling Mortensen's exhibition Twelve Rooms with an artist talk at Bricks Gallery and afterwards kicks off his new light installation at Blågårds Plads on Tuesday February 21. from 18:00 - 20:00.
The exhibition Twelve Rooms takes us on a journey through personal change. With inspiration from the rehabilitating 12-step program, each work exists in extension of each other as an image of gradual change, or steps, towards something new. As a spiritual foundation for mental and psychic healing, the exhibition reflects on our understanding of the processual and points to the individuality of each battle and thus also the individuality of all recovery processes.
Twelve Rooms Echoes is a special display of fragments from the exhibition at Blågårds Plads. Six light projectors will form a constellation of abstract silhouettes that extends Malling Mortensen's paper works leaving an echo of the exhibition at the public square until the light months dawn.
The hectic energy in Nørrebro requires consideration and care from the local environment. It is therefore important for Bricks and Støberiet to be able to complete this project in this period as a sign of our commitment. The opening of the light installation at Blågårds Plads will happen during Copenhagen Light Festival (February 3-26).
Bricks Extended is the gallery's new nomadic exhibition format that will explore art's dialogue with different environments. The initiative will accumulate fertile ground for recalibrated perspectives through diverse, site-specific collaborations. Inspired by the gallery's open facade facing Blågårdsgade, Bricks Extended wants to contribute with non-commercial exhibitions mainly in the gallery's local environment. The program will contain a wide range of exhibitions, events and content created in close dialogue between the artist, public and private partners, Bricks Gallery and curator Anne Thomasen.
